''I was pleased, though, when you were selected. It took them a long time. The failure of the previous selection was ten years ago and my energy is starting to diminish.''
I am wondering what was so disastrous about the previous selection. Was the pain to painful? Probably Jonas will also be a failure but the Receiver isn't supposed to make mistakes. He is supposed to be the example of the community. Did he make the pain to painful for her? I hope that somewhere in the book it is mentioned of what happened to her and why?
This book is making me feel very apprehensive. It makes me get nervous but excited. It also draws a lot of suspense. This book is really good so far and I hope that it ends in a good way because it is one of the only books that I've loved in my whole life.
Giuli, I really like your point of view but I disagree with you in believing that Jonas will be a failure. I don't think that because since the Giver already made the mistake, he wont repeat that again. Maybe as you said, he made the pain too painful for the last receiver and she applied for release and that is why Jonas isn't allowed to apply for release (that is one of the rules he finds in his folder). So I respect your opinion, but I still think Jonas wont be a failure and I believe he will be a really good receiver. I am also eager to know what happens next in the book and I want to know what exactly happened to the previous receiver. Really enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteThank you Majo for your opinion and I respect it, although I said that I thought that Jonas could be a failure I didn't assure it
